Prophetic Events Foretold

The foundation of the nation of Israel on May 14, 1948 was the most important prophetic event of our day and age. It was the event that marked the start of God’s prophetic clock. The confederation of the European Union is the second largest prophetic event, and points to the the timing of the rapture, the revelation of Antichrist, and the Tribulation.  Both of these events warn us that we are on the very cusp of the Lord’s return.

It is widely seen in biblical prophecy circles that the EU most likely represents the revived Holy Roman Empire.  This is corroborated by scripture.  The prophecies given to Daniel (chapters 2 and 7) relate to “the latter days” (Daniel 2:28), “to what would take place in the future” (Daniel 2:29).  Daniel’s prophecies are based upon a dream God gave to Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 2:31-35).  Interpreting that dream, Daniel concluded tha it revealed a succession of gentile empires, beginning with the Babylonian Empire, followed by Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome (Daniel 2:36-40).

The last Gentile world empire will be a confederation of nations (Daniel 2:41-43) that will arise out of the old Roman Empire (Daniel 7:7-8). And out of that confederation, the Antichrist will arise, using the revived Roman Empire as his base to conquer the world (Daniel 7:8, Daniel 7:23-25). But this final Gentile empire will be short-lived, for it will be suddenly crushed by the return of the Messiah who will “set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed” (Daniel 2:44)[].

7 “After that, in my vision at night I looked, and there before me was a fourth beast—terrifying and frightening and very powerful. It had large iron teeth; it crushed and devoured its victims and trampled underfoot whatever was left. It was different from all the former beasts, and it had ten horns.  8 “While I was thinking about the horns, there before me was another horn, a little one, which came up among them; and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. This horn had eyes like the eyes of a human being and a mouth that spoke boastfully.

Daniel 7:7-8 (NIV)

After Daniel interpreted the king’s dream of the metal statue, he himself dreamt of a wind-whipped sea, out of which came four unusual beasts (Daniel 7:2-3).  The dreams are the same, of an overview of the kingdoms to come until the end of human history. The chart shows these connections, with explanations of the beasts shown below.

Daniel 7 – The Beasts
Winged Lion
Lopsided Bear
Four-headed Leopard
Terrible Beast
Ten Horns

The First Beast
The first beast looked “like a lion with the wings of an eagle”. It symbolizes strength and swiftness (Daniel 7:4). Archeologists have discovered that the symbol of Babylon was the winged lion, which is also attested to in scripture (Jeremiah 50:17, Ezekiel 17:3, 12). The lion’s wings were “plucked… and it was made to stand on two feet… and it was given a human mind” (Daniel 7:4). These metaphors represent the insanity of Nebuchadnezzar as well as his change of heart toward God.

The Second Beast
The second beast resembled a lopsided bear with three ribs in its mouth (Daniel 7:5). It has two legs that were shorter than the others. This indicated that the Persians, though rising later, would dominate the Medes in thier united Kingdom. Throughout the Bible, the bears are known for their aggressive and carnivorous behavior (2 Samuel 17:8, 2 Kings 2:24, Hosea 13:8). The meaning of the three ribs in the bears mouth is uncertain, but it is certain that the Medo-Persians were ferocious as they gobbled up territory (Isaiah 13:15-18).

The Third Beast
The third beast looked like a leopard with four wings and four heads (Daniel 7:6). In the Bible leopards are depicted as swift (Habakkuk 1:8) and cunning (Jeremiah 5:6, Hosea 13:7). This reflects the manner in which Alexander the Great and the Greeks conquered the Medo-Persian Empire and then the world. After the death of Alexander in 323 BC, his kingdom was divided among four generals (Daniel 8:8, 21-22).

The Fourth Beast
The fourth beast was unlike anything Daniel had ever seen before. It was dreadful and terrifying and extremely strong (Daniel 7:7). Its teeth were large and like iron, and it “devoured and crushed and trampled down” the other beast. The beast represented the Roman Empire, which destroyed Greece and conquered a wider range of territory than any of those who had come before.

On the fourth beast’s head were ten horns, representing ten kings or kingdoms (Daniel 7:7, 23-24). While Daniel was pondering the ten horns, an eleventh horn, a “little one,” begin to emerge from the midst of the others, uprooting three of the horns. The little horn was intelligent and had a mouth from which it blasphemed God (Daniel 7:8). It represented the Antichrist with the 10 horns representing the rise of the new Roman Empire and its eventual ruling body of 10 leaders.

Babylon Rebuilt

In today’s European Union, the symbols used to represent itself are intriguing.

There seems little doubt that the EU parliament building was modeled on Breughel’s painting of the Tower of Babel (seen above left).  The semi-naked woman riding the animal is the exact same as she who is mentioned in Revelation 17:3b ff.

“There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns. The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries. The name written on her forehead was a mystery: babylon the great the mother of prostitutes and of the abominations of the earth. I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus. When I saw her, I was greatly astonished.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭17:3b-6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

So the EU has chosen the Whore of Babylon and the Beast of Satan to represent them.  There go my plans for summer vacation…

If one is un-saved by the blood of Jesus, then you need to rethink your strategy for what will happen to your eternal soul after your death. If you have given yourself to the Lord, these news stories should be great news for you. As troubling as these news stories are on the surface, they all boil down to the unquestionable fact that God is about to call a halt to the current world’s disarray and bring His people home to Heaven for the glorious Marriage Supper of Lamb.

These stories are not our words. Biblical prophecies are not our words; they belong to Jesus and prophets of God. The tying together of the headlines and prophecy is what I present to you. As always, I encourage you to do your own investigation of today’s events and of Biblical prophecy.

May your research be blessed in its yielding of Sprit-led insight.
